Fountain
for courtyard at the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center
The Mellwood
Arts and Entertainment Center invited local and regional
artists to submit proposals for the design and construction
of a fountain to be located in the main courtyard of the
art complex by early Summer 2008.
Artists
were encouraged to keep in mind the past, present and
future of the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center in
their design as well as incorporate found objects and
raw materials supplied by MAEC. A
jury led by KY Museum of Art and Craft director,
Kevin O'Brien anonymously viewed the 10 design proposals
then selected the one submitted by glass artist, Johnny
Gordon. His work utilizing a slump glass technique
will incorporate found metals and plate glass. It will
be an exciting addition to the Mellwood Art Center. The
Art Center will give the artist a purchase award of $3,500.
