Artwork
by Frank Martinez
Frank
Martinez is a stencil artist that has lived in
Louisville for almost 3 years. Using such tools
as an X-acto knife and aerosol paint he has created
a number of large scaled works around town, most
notably the images of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin
Luther King that were on the former Legal Graffiti
Wall on Market Street. Frank's work can also been
seen on the walls at Third Street Dive and has
recently been exhibiting at Clay Buffet Gallery.
From
a distance his work is bold and reads like a Pop
art billboard, but up close one can view the pain
staking details of shading and "paint by
numbers" like gradation that can only be
achieved by the hand of a true craftsman through
several layers of process. A collection of his
recent works is on display in the Bridge Gallery
at Mellwood Art Center now through May 16,
2008
an artist's reception is scheduled
April 25th 6-9pm
