All about Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center

The Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center is located on 42 acres of land in close proximity to River Road, downtown Louisville, I-71, I-64 & 65, Frankfort Avenue & Lower Brownsboro Road.

Formerly the Fischer Meat Packing Company on Mellwood, this vast, 360,000 square ft center is being renovated into over 200 artist studios, storefront specialty retail, galleries, teaching studios, offices space, rehearsal space for theatre groups and dancers, entertainment space and more. MAEC has been host to many exciting Art Fairs, Film Festivals, Music Concerts and numerous other creative events.

At present there are over 165 Artists and entrepreneurs open and operating throughout the center along with cafes, a fitness center and a newly renovated 10,430 square ft special events room with grand lawn

The original meat packing plant was built in 1904. Several additions have been constructed in 1920, 1930 and 1950, respectively. As you tour our vast complex, experience the massive rooms with 20’ ceilings and mushroom columns, as well as smaller rooms waiting to be artist studios that are tucked in an alcove.
